What is the fourth trimester?

The "fourth trimester" describes the first twelve weeks after birth. Your baby is adjusting to life outside the womb — learning to feed, sleep in longer stretches and regulate their body — while you are physically recovering from birth, often running on very little sleep, and adjusting emotionally to a new role.

It is also when many families feel the most pressure: feeding questions, nights with little sleep, older siblings who need reassurance, visiting relatives, and a household that still has to run. Many parents find that the support they planned for pregnancy and delivery ends at exactly the moment they need it most.

A postpartum doula fills that gap. Rather than focusing only on the baby, a postpartum doula cares for the whole family — helping the birthing parent rest and heal, answering feeding and newborn questions, and keeping the home calm so everyone can settle into new routines with confidence.

Postpartum doula services

  • Overnight postpartum care so parents can sleep
  • Daytime postpartum support and newborn care education
  • Feeding support for breastfeeding and bottle feeding
  • Sibling adjustment and family transition help
  • Light household help related to baby and recovery
  • Emotional support and a calm, reassuring presence

Pricing

Postpartum doula placements use the same flat-fee structure as all of our placements. Placement fees follow our three flat-fee packages: Basic / Advise $1,500 + taxes (90-day replacement warranty), Standard $2,500 + taxes (6-month warranty, most popular) and Premium $3,500 + taxes (12-month warranty). A non-refundable $500 retainer activates the search and is deducted from the package total. We accept Zelle, Venmo and bank transfer.

A postpartum doula supports the whole family after birth: maternal recovery, feeding support, newborn care, sibling transition and light household help, by day or overnight.

+What is the difference between a baby nurse and a postpartum doula?

A baby nurse focuses on the newborn's care. A postpartum doula also supports the mother's recovery, emotional wellbeing and the family's adjustment.

+When should I book a postpartum doula?

Ideally in the second or third trimester so the search is complete before your due date. Short-notice requests are possible depending on availability.

+Does Florida Medicaid cover postpartum doulas?

Florida Medicaid coverage for doula services varies by plan and eligibility, so check directly with your plan. SLV Private Placements' placements are private-pay.
